Forming 12 oz Cups from 320 GSM Paper on the MYC-OCM12
A customized heating setup was developed to form and seal this 12 oz single-wall cup made from 320 GSM paper with an 18 GSM PE coating.
Ppaer Cup Size and Material Requirements
The customer wanted a rigid single-wall cup for serving drinks in coffee shops, milk tea outlets, and fast-food restaurants.
The target cup held approximately 360 ml. Its combination of a 9 cm top diameter, 11.5 cm height, and 6 cm bottom diameter determined the tooling format, To handle the heavier 320 GSM paper, the machine was configured with additional heating for side-seam bonding and bottom sealing.
Why Standard Heating Was Not the Starting Point
Thick cup stock behaves differently from lighter paper during side-seam bonding and bottom forming. For this reason, the project was evaluated around the customer's actual 320 GSM paper and 18 GSM PE coating.
Prepare the Coated Surface Before Bonding
Hot-air preheating was applied before ultrasonic bonding so the PE-coated side-seam area could reach a more suitable condition for the joining step.
Support Heat Distribution at the Bottom Joint
The added heating capacity also addressed the greater forming resistance of 320 GSM stock, with particular attention to the joint between the cup body and bottom.
MYC-OCM12 with Project-Specific Heating
The machine covers the required 12 oz format and was paired with the additional hot-air arrangement identified during material evaluation.
Custom Cup Printing
The customer selected a blue full-wrap design for the 12 oz cups. The artwork was printed on the flat paper cup fans before they were fed into the MYC-OCM12 for forming. After forming, the colors, graphics, and text remained clear on the finished cups.
Reviewing the Finished Cup After Forming
A completed sample was filled and stirred during an on-site demonstration. During the recorded check, the cup retained its shape and showed no visible leakage or obvious deformation.
12 oz Cups Produced as Required
The configured MYC-OCM12 produced 12 oz single-wall cups using 320 GSM paper with an 18 GSM PE coating. The finished cups matched the required dimensions, retained clear full-wrap printing, and showed no visible leakage or deformation during the on-site check.
